Hyundai is recalling more than 26,000 Velosters manufactured between 2012 and 2013 because their parking sensors may short circuit, increasing the risk of fire.
A recall published on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website states that a “highly conductive fluid” could leak into the Veloster’s reverse parking sensor module, short circuiting the system and creating a fire hazard.
According to the recall, a total of 26,169 Velosters made between 2012 and 2013 are affected. Although there have been no reports of accidents or injuries, Hyundai has received five reports of fires related to the problem consumer Reports,
Thankfully, there is already a solution. The dealers will replace the reverse parking aid sensor fuse in the affected vehicles free of cost. The owners are expected to send notices on April 29 notifying them of the problem. If you think your car may be affected, visit NHTSA’s site and punch in your VIN.
