Dodge is recalling 139,019 Durangos from 2021 to 2023 model years for rear spoilers that in very rare cases can detach and separate from the vehicle. Durango SUVs made from 24 October 2020 to 16 February 2023 could have their hatch spoiler made “over-flush to the roof”. If it does, the spoiler may come into contact with the roof when the tailgate is raised. Repeated instances may end up causing the spoiler to loose itself.
Owners can recognize the condition by a strange noise when using the hatch, or a rattle of spoilers when the vehicle is moving. In a worst-case scenario, a high-speed wind could rip the spoiler loose from the Durango, posing a hazard to other road users.
Dodge says it is not aware of any injuries or accidents related to the condition. The fix is a trip to the dealer to have the spoiler inspected and replaced if necessary. Letters to owners will start being issued from April 14. Owners may contact Fiat Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403 and should refer to internal recall number 20A. They may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 (TTY 800-424-9153), or visit www.nhtsa.gov and refer to campaign number 23V115000.
