The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a class act that excels in providing soul-soothing peace and luxury to its occupants. How the next generation of the E-Class will attempt to continue that legacy is becoming clear. We’ve heard whispers that the all-new E-Class lineup will see the current convertible and coupe models, leaving only the four-door sedan and a station wagon. It’s not yet known whether the new wagon will be sold in the US, but Mercedes insiders say this will be the last time there will be a long-roof model in the E-Class lineup. We can’t tell how many cylinders the next-generation E-Class’s engine offering might have or the hybrid technology expected to produce, but given Benz’s progress in this area, we think the efficient powertrain can be expected. What’s new for 2024?
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class ushers in the next generation of the automaker’s classy mid-size offering. It is expected to make its debut later during the 2023 calendar year. We have learned that the new E-Class will offer a host of new tech including 5G connectivity, artificial-intelligence assistance, and the ability to join Zoom meetings using the built-in camera. We look forward to seeing how this all actually works out in practice.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
The next-gen E-Class range will likely follow the same basic trim-level structure as the outgoing model. However, we expect the E-Class coupe and convertible models to be discontinued, and we’re not sure if the new E-Class wagon will be sold here. Either way, sources tell us that this will be the last E-Class wagon produced by the company.
Interior, Comfort & Cargo
Mercedes describes the interior design of the new E-Class as sporty, high-quality and digital – which sounds like business as usual to us. A high-res gauge cluster and central display are affixed to the dash, and a third screen is available for the passenger. A 17-speaker Burmester 4D surround system is standard, and an active ambient lighting feature is available that can adjust interior lighting based on what the system perceives as the mood of the music. It can even amp up the vibe with a strobing feature that’s synced to beats by Diplo, so go ahead and party like a rockstar; We will not judge. If you want to relax and unwind, however, the E-Class is able to wrap you up with the amenities of the optional Energizing Comfort wellness program through the use of a soothing combination of sound, massage, lighting, and more.
Infotainment & Connectivity
According to Mercedes, the new E-Class brings an improved infotainment system with quicker response and more connectivity including 5G technology. An optional screen is available for the front passenger, and enables the camera-based monitoring system to automatically adjust brightness and avoid driver distractions. Another new innovative feature is the selfie and video cameras mounted above the dashboard, which allows drivers to participate in Zoom or other video conferences – but only when the vehicle is stationary.
