McLaren – The Factory

We understand that this is in fact old news.  But with something this inspiring and mind blowing, we honestly don’t give a shit.

Being McLaren Monday and all, it would only be fitting to show off their sleek, beautiful and mostly ergonomic fortress on which builds their iconic hyper cars and Formula 1 racers.  This sterile environment also doubles as showcase of triumphs from their past.

Apart from how it looks, this high tech creation wasn’t thought up by Cave Johnson and Aperture Science.  More like multiple Sterling Prize winner architect, Lord Norman Foster and executive chairman of McLaren, Ron Dennis.

The meshing of the two only had one bi-product, automotive excellence in the highest degree.

So, if you haven’t seen this footage before, take a peek.  If you already have, enjoy it again.

Now that video was shot in 2005ish.

McLaren has grown a ton since then obviously.

Take a look at the new MP4-12C.  A new, 345,000 sq. ft. cutting edge factory was officially opened recently where these newest breed of McLaren’s are being hatched.  This factory is now attached to the Norman Foster designed McLaren Technology Center in the video above.  In particular McLaren fashion, the factory was built around the car, not the other way around.

In closing, I honestly think the word “factory” is too harsh and unfitting of a term to describe a place like this.  When I think factory, I think of dirty, oil caked machines, pumping away countless, characterless copies of something.

If you watched the watched the video, I bet you’d disagree with the factory term as well.

Take care,
